As in any business there are some certain success principals that need to be followed, and network marketing is no exception to the rule. To ensure your network marketing success, I strongly suggest that you follow the 7 tips outlined below.

1. Attitude – It is said that character is the ability to follow thru with a decision long after the excitement of the moment is gone. This industry can be one of ‘high highs’ and ‘low lows’. Do your best to try and control the emotional swings that your business brings. If necessary look for some books or audio programs on attitude and commitment, there are many great ones out there. And one last thought on attitude…read and listen to positive material EVERY DAY.

2. Treat It Like A Business – One of the biggest pitfalls in this industry is that due to the relatively low cost of entry, it is easy for most people to justify putting the business on the shelf when things get tough. Worse yet is treating your business as a hobby. Keep records, keep appointments and keep a regular schedule. Be as accountable to yourself and your business as you would be required to be at your job.

3. Be A Product Of The Product – Cliche? Maybe. You do not need to be in love with every product or service that your MLM company produces, but to ensure your network marketing success there better be a few products that turn you on. If you cannot find something in the company catalog that you can wrap your head around, you will never have long term success with that company… PERIOD. You will be someone who is merely hawking an opportunity and people will see thru you in a heart beat.

4. Use Your Upline – your sponsor and upline are there to help you build the business. The keyword there being “help”. They never have and never will build your business for you. But a good sponsor will be there for support, training, 3-way calls, etc. The same holds true further upline, reach out to them. And remember that your results will determine how much of their time you can command. There is nothing more draining for a sponsor than being called every day by someone who needs to be pumped up, talked off the ledge or is ready to quit …again. Being a pest or needy will only lead them to ignoring your calls and emails.

5. Plug Into The Team – There is usually a team to plug in to within your upline. Your sponsor will usually share the team info with you. Many teams offer recruiting systems, meetings, training, ning or skype chat platforms, etc. Thru the years I have built some of the strongest and longest friendships I have as a result of getting involved with the team. Eventually you may even be ready to take the step of starting your own team. Having been previously involved in a team will shave a lot of time off the learning curve.

6. Consistency - For most, this is a part-time business …but it is not a spare-time business. As mentioned previously in “treating it like a business”, you must develop and maintain good work habits. And that includes setting daily, weekly and monthly goals. You must set a schedule for when you are going to work your business each week. The beauty of this industry is that for those who truly do the work, consistently over time, reach a point where you can begin to enjoy the time freedom that the sales page promised. And it is true, that time freedom is there for those who do the work.

7. Develop You Own Lead Sources – The number one thing you can do to achieve long term network marketing success is to acquire your own leads and develop your own lead generation systems. You never want someone else to have more control of your business than you do. In this industry, change is the constant. By being the captain of your own ship you will always have a better chance for long term success. Don’t let yourself become a statistic by leaving lead generation, the most important aspect of your business to chance.

Another applicable title for this post could have been; “Water, electricity and network marketers or why the internet is screwing up your business”. And it would be a very true statement indeed. Now don’t get me wrong, I love the internet…the tools, the opportunities, the reach. But marketing your company online should be one part of your strategy, not all of it.

The internet has provided a safe haven for many to confuse activity with accomplishment. It is easy to spend hours posting ads, surfing for credits or playing on Facebook…but at the end of the day have you “talked” to anyone about your business. Probably not. All of these activities should be approached with the idea that you are opening a door to to present your opportunity. And that’s where the internet fails to deliver for most network marketers.

The MLM industry has been bombarded for years with promises of “an easier way” to build the business, sponsor without talking to anyone or my favorite “on autopilot”. Many of these tools serve a very useful purpose but where MOST people fail is the last 10%…asking for the sale. Picking up the phone and saying “hey,…..”. Or expecting that someone is just gonna sign up. Does it ever happen? Yes. Will it happen often? No.

The path of least resistance is avoiding that phone call or meet up at Starbucks. The fear of personal interaction (potential rejection) sets in and its back to wasting time pretending that something is being accomplished with all of your internet tools.

BALANCE…that’s the key element which is necessary to remember in how you approach you business. Use the tools, but use yourself as well. This business is about networking, building relationships with others. And nothing, no tool or application, will ever replace the power or impact of personal interaction.

So these things are starting to spring up everywhere. What are they? And how can you use them in your business?

Simply these are “QR” codes or “Quick Response” codes that you can use to market yourself , your product or service. QR codes are very popular in Japan and are making their way into American advertising and marketing.

The way they work is that when someone scans the QR code with a smart phone. the advertiser can either capture the users information or redirect the user to a website of their choice. The redirected page can be a mobile friendly web page or some type of capture page.

I am seeing many folks using the codes incorrectly. They are not designed to be placed on a website…they are specifically for offline marketing. Display one of these on your business cards or product brochure. Or in a print ad. Imagine the fascination when you hand your card to someone with the QR code on it. Most people will have to give it a try…especially while this new technology is still so novel.

Go ahead and get creative with these. It is predicted that by 2013 that 85% of the phones in the US will be some type of smart phone. You can even give it a try for free. I have made arrangements to provide a QR code generator for you to use. Go ahead and get one for yourself , get creative and have some fun with it.

All to often we get caught up in going on and on about all the bells and whistles of the new super system of the week and loose sight of what we are really trying to accomplish with our sales material…satisfying or filling a need. What does your target audience really need? Is it generating more leads? Mastering SEO? Understanding social media? Becoming the guru of PPC? The right way to utilize attraction marketing? Recruiting more people into your primary company…It doesn’t matter. People need and want solutions to their problems. Not a boat load of smoke and mirrors.

And this applys equally to not only written materials…but what you say as well.

It never fails to amaze me that the pitches that fill my inbox everyday never offer a solution to what I may need. What problem do I need to fix. What is holding me back. What will provide me more time. Instead these messages rely on hype and bs that emphasize; new, better, cheaper, easier, etc., instead of addressing the need and providing a solution.

If I ever see the following words or phrases again it will be too soon…avoid them at all cost.

“Never been done before”

“Prelaunch”

“You are in the right place at the right time”

“This is a Microsoft moment. Don’t you wish that….”

You get the idea.

Remember stories sell. Be creative. Be social.

Many people were all abuzz initially trying to determine exactly how this would affect them, what compensation plan would prevail, how the downlines would merge, etc… Everyone quickly realized that they had been duped by the prank, but the initial chaos surrounding the announcement was fun to watch anyway.

The reality of this magnitude of merger in the industry is not very far from what I feel the future holds in store. I believe that in the upcoming years many companies are going to realize the benefit of consolidation within the network marketing industry, much the same way that they have in traditional business. To remain competitive and viable the MLM companies need to find ways to optimize overhead and manufacturing costs. But more importantly the MLM companies need to find ways to shore up a diluted distributor base. The network marketing industry need to realize that they must find ways to attract and retain their distributor base, which has become a monumental challenge.

Donald Trump, while pitching his Trump Network, has spoken repeatedly about how he believes and sees consolidation as a necessity within the network marketing industry, and I have to admit that I agree with him on this. One of the unique things in the network marketing industry, unlike just about any other industry, is that no one particular company commands more than a 5% market share. There are currently just slightly over 200 companies that are registered with the DSA (Direct Selling Association). In fact another interesting statistic is that the number of network marketers in 1980 is no different than the number of network marketers in 1991, 2004 or 2010. What we seem to do is to recycle the same marketers over and over.

The rampant spread of the “new program of the week” mentality that the internet has helped to foster has done little to advance the perception of the network marketing business model. While there are 200 or so DSA member companies, you can find 100’s and 100’s of less than legitimate opportunities being pitched at …and further diluting the finite distributor base on a daily basis. Consolidation in the network marketing industry would strengthen the distributor base within the legitimate companies by presenting a wider product line, increasing sales and thus diminishing the marketer’s tendency to be on the constant lookout for the next bigger better deal.

The distributor must always keep in mind that they must first and foremost focus on building “their business”. The reality is, that by the very agreements we sign with the MLM company, we are little more than 1099 employees, and at the mercy of the whims and decisions of that company’s management. The best defense in this market is a strong offense. Build your MLM company, but make sure you are building YOU at the same time. Regardless of what happens to or with a particular company, no one can EVER take YOU away. And be prepared for consolidation in the network marketing industry, it is not a matter of if…but when. For the sake of the entire industry let’s hope for sooner than later.

I recently decided to dive into Facebook PPC advertising to test the waters a bit. My initial results were very encouraging and I was receiving preliminary results that meet the cost per lead metric’s I need to qualify an advertising source.

In my efforts to tweek and expand this test I discovered a frustrating flaw in the Facebook advertising platform. By simply adding a few keywords to my approved and running adgroup, my ads were pulled out of rotation and needed to be approved again.

Check out the video below to see my example and the work around.

Hope this helps you avoid some frustration. If you enjoyed this please feel free to add a comment. And go ahead and use the “share buttons” to share this with your Twitter and Facebook friends.

Network marketers who want to intensify their online business campaigns for the purpose of generating more leads have a wide range of Internet tools available to them. These tools include the enhancement of relatively more traditional online solutions, such as business blogs and company websites, and the use of prevalent social networking media such as Twitter and Facebook. Some network marketers have been able to utilize a combination of these tools and affiliate marketing to gain more ground and receive larger amounts of revenue via the added income streams.

However, the best use of these aforementioned solutions may not be as effective if the strategies implemented do not take into account the concept of attraction marketing. Attraction marketing helps many businesses, including those in the network marketing industry, to build a larger, high quality circle of contacts or leads. High-quality contacts simply mean that the individuals who “follow” your company via the various online methods stated above need to be loyal, and thus, keep coming back for more of what you can offer. How do you ensure that you retain current leads and add to the number exponentially?

To retain customers and attract more leads, a network marketing company has to offer relevant and reliable information through these Internet venues. Oftentimes, a business may have to start from scratch, or at least build a larger fan base through existing leads or contacts. The idea behind affiliate marketing promotions is similar to slowly putting together a building, you start with a strong foundation, add to it with good materials, and so on. In this case, even the tiniest misplaced brick, or a misaligned girder can cause what you have built to topple down eventually, to apply this to your attraction marketing efforts, you must continuously tweak your fortification, and remove and replace anything that will cause your campaign to fall into shambles.

Again, attraction marketing is all about the long-term goals, all that you do in the past, present, and future will directly influence the likelihood of your business’ success or your company’s failure. You need to make sure that your contacts or leads are well taken care of, by offering them information of great value. It simply follows that the greater the value of what you offer, the higher the chances of your leads being retained and even spreading the word to other prospective employees or members of your downline. Remember that, like other worthwhile efforts, you will not be able to build your campaign and desired number of leads in a day, you may have to invest large amounts of time, money, and effort to reap the benefits of attraction marketing and see your business grow.

Why is attraction marketing so important? This marketing philosophy is not entirely new, as the processes and methods behind it are based in some of the traditional advertising tenets that existed prior to the emergence of the Web. It is in application where it differs from the old-school methods of marketing, thus making it necessary for network marketers to hone their skills on the tools available before being able to apply this type of marketing philosophy to their businesses successfully.

Network marketing, a marketing strategy employed by many businesses, sounds like an easy enough campaign to do, especially since it does not necessary require a big budget. The truth is, it can be easy for some but you have to have the right tools and approach to do it in order to ensure success. The probability of success will depend on how many leads are generated and how much you grow your network. Duplication is the key. What that means, is that if you are very effective individually that’s great, but to truly be successful you have to employ techniques that you can easily teach your downline to reproduce as well.

Believing that network marketing, or what used to be called multi-level marketing, is a get rich quick model where you put in very little work is a major mistake. Hard work is always part and parcel of any business, there is no such thing as a quick fix on success either. Just like any other endeavor, success has to be earned through hard work. Despite the fact that the Internet has made marketing easier in a sense, you still need to work at it. Presence on the Net does not make your orders or interested downline flood your site. You still have to find a way to pull them in or push them to the site. Remember that the Internet is just a medium and the business model remains the same you just have to tweak it to adjust to the uniqueness of the medium.

In a way, the Internet makes it easier to do network marketing but a little more difficult as well and you have to know how to take advantage of both. It is easier because you don’t have to do too much physically, except perhaps use your brain and your imagination. But, the essence of success in Network Marketing always comes down to relationship and you will have to work a little harder at that aspect of the business when your contacts are online.

You can have presence on the Internet in more ways than one – you can have your own site, you can create an account on social media sites and link that to your site, you can have several sites with different advocacy related to your product that interlink, and you can have all these and have multiple backlinks and feeders if you will for your funnel. The more presence you have, the better. However, here lies the difficulty too. The difficulty in dealing with the Internet when it comes to network marketing is information overload. First of all, you have to compete with the barrage of information out there. Fortunately, this is not new to any marketing professional, rising above the clutter is an age old issue and the discipline is not much different on the Net. Variety is essential on the Internet, otherwise, you will bore your target and he will move on to other sites in a split second. If you have multiple presences on the Net, each should be original in a sense, a different angle or a different benefit, for instance. Don’t make them multiple personalities, just think of them as different windows into who you are.

Another important thing to remember about network marketing is getting quality leads and quality downline members. Sometimes, it is not always about the numbers but the percentage of conversion. Static energy is still energy but kinetic energy is infinitely better. Getting into social media sites is one of the musts on the Internet when you’re using this business model but make sure you maximize the opportunity to get quality leads and downline members so you can increase your conversion ratio. Remember: the key is in the duplication.

WordPress is a very popular blogging software, much like an online personal diary. Blogging is the easiest way to gain presence online without much ado and is a very important tool in marketing your products and services. The great thing about this particular software is that it is search-engine friendly and supports tagging of articles and posts. It is easy to use and the software can be downloaded for free and most hosting companies will automatically install it for you free of charge or provide a utility that does. This software also allows you to incorporate additional features in your blog to enhance the blog’s functionality. Most of the add-ons, called plugins, are also free, although some have to be purchased separately – especially those that provide more functionality to the sites.

Network marketers should have a presence on the web and WordPress will give you that presence easier and faster. Just like any other marketing tool, however, getting the basic package of this software is great but adding plugins will make the tool more powerful and better for your purposes.

Google Analytics is a power free tracking utility that tracks views on your posts and pages. Tracking is important in blogs especially if you are network marketers. It is useless to have your presence on the web and not have anyone view them. The more views you have, the more chances your site will be cross-referenced in other sites, the better for you.

The All in One SEO Pack is also a good plugin to have for your WordPress blog. It creates automatic meta tags per your specifications and this helps search engines identify your site faster and easier. It also automatically optimizes header information and titles for the search engines. You don’t even have to be well-versed in SEO (search engine optimization) to work this plugin because all you have to do is install it and modify a few things.

Commentluv is another important WordPress plugin that every blog should have. Commentluv encourages and attracts more bloggers to your site because it creates a link to the last post in their blog into your site. More and more bloggers will want to post their comments on your site because of this cross link, it’s reciprocal. This will drive more traffic to your site.

Sociable is a great plugin especially if you use it in conjuction with ShareThis plugin. Sociable will list your social networking sites and will automatically create links to these sites on your blog pages. What ShareThis plugin will do is make these button links bigger. The point of these plugins is to encourage and facilitate the process for people to share you post with others by tagging it or bookmarking it with their favorite social media site.

There numerous other plugins you can use to increase the functionality of your blogs which will improve your chances of being noticed and make your site friendlier to prospective leads. Just get the ones that are applicable to your target market and your marketing objectives. Some plugins are more complicated to use than others especially if you are a novice in the game. Make sure that you understand how best they can work for you before installing them and beware of plugins that may be considered blackhat or spamming tools. One last piece of advice is to not confuse WordPress with WordPress.com. The latter is a blog that you don’t have full control over, while free and it doesn’t require you to purchase a domain name, you should direct your efforts to a more robust and permanent solution by installing a blog into your own domain.
